A&E Love Machine
branded interactive entertainment
A&E’s Biography Channel had a multiple-choice text quiz on their website. Answer a few questions and get matched with your celebrity date. The problem was, not many people played it… because plain text isn’t much fun. A&E wanted to dial the playability factor up a notch.
Love Machine is essentially a multiple-choice quiz dressed up with illustrations and animation. The metaphor of an eccentric Victorian machine holds the animation together. A machine is all about movement, and this interactive entertainment is always in motion: gears and levers and belts and pumps. The screens slide across from one panel of the machine to another. The illustrations were done by an agency in Boston called Alphabet Arm. I cut them into tiny movable pieces and scripted the animation. Don’t miss the sound design!
